Abstract

Nowadays, it is the age of social media. Everybody is using social media platforms to communicate. The main purpose of this research was to understand self-mocking among politicians and the effect of political memes on the youth of Karachi. Memes are typically shared to spread joy and entertainment, but now we have observed that memes are often used for unnecessary self-mockery, which can harm people's mental health and online discourse. A questionnaire was used as the methodology, with questions focused on the sharing of memes on Facebook. The questionnaire contained closed-ended questions, with five questions about memes directed towards the youth. The majority of answers came from individuals aged between 18 to 30 years. The theories used in this research include gratification theory, social responsibility theory, and cognitive social learning theory. The study also discusses findings from various research papers on political memes.
